VIRUS & MALWARE ALERT
In the last few years computer viruses have gotten more difficult to deal with. The hackers behind them have gotten more technically savvy and profiteering, while anti-virus companies struggle to keep up.
The latest viruses are getting nastier too. Once in your system, they start adding layers of infection and disable your anti-virus and spyware scanners. "Rootkits" deeply embed the virus into your system making removal very difficult. All the while your blasted with ads from every direction. And good luck downloading a new anti-virus, as your browser can be redirected to a scamware anti-virus that attempts to scare you into paying for a polished looking product that only pretends to work.
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"
The old saying still rings true today. Here are some things you can do to prevent viruses before dealing with the costly side effects:
* Make sure your anti-virus is up to date
* Keep Windows updated with Automatic Updates
* Update Java to the latest version and uninstall any old ones
* Use a spyware/malware scanner
* Use Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer
* Use Gmail or Google Apps for mail

Modus Operandi
I recently analyzed the top anti-virus programs by summing up various reviews, independent detection statistics, and other factors such as scan speed resource utilization. A few anti-virus programs stood out as the best.
My favorite is Kaspersky Anti-Virus, it is incredibly good at scanning and detecting and very fairly priced as well.

Another one I liked is called ESET NOD32. Not a glorious name, but it has made a name for itself among security professionals for high detection rates.
